By properly caring for your new mattress you can assure it will provide many years of proper performance. It is important to follow mattress care instructions from the maker of your mattress as many different materials are used in its construction. We at America's Mattress are factory trained in all aspects of mattress care.
The following are a set of general
guidelines:
Use a Mattress Protector: A good quality
waterproof mattress protector will dramatically increase the
lifespan of your new mattress. It will prevent stains from the
mattress, voiding the warranty, as well as prevent dust mites and
mold from growing inside. We carry a wide selection of mattress
protection starting at $29. We highly recommend protecting your new
mattress set.
Proper Mattress Support: Make sure your new mattress and foundation are properly installed in your home. The support frame for your mattress set should be stable. A queen set should have a minimum of 5 support legs and a king set should have a minimum of 6. Improper support can damage your new sleep set. We carry a variety of support options and can explain the benefits of each.
Let it Air Out: Please be aware that your new mattress was recently manufactured with new components. If you detect a slight "new product" odor, leave it uncovered. A few hours should be all it takes.
Be careful cleaning: The chemicals in dry cleaning solutions or stain removers may be harmful to your mattress. Try vacuuming. If you are determined to tackle a stain, use mild soap with cold water and apply lightly. Excessive moisture can damage the interior of your mattress.
Don't remove the Law Label: The law tag on the head end of the mattress and box spring contain important information including the manufacture date. Serta, as most manufacturers, require this information to honor the warranty.
Do not Jump on
it: Your new mattress set is designed for sleeping on - Not to
play on - it is not a toy! Don't let the kids jump on your sleep
set. This could do damage to the interior construction, as well as
to themselves!
Some settling is normal in a quality mattress. Your new
sleep set is designed to conform to the contours of your body
allowing you a comfortable, healthy night's sleep. Body conformity
will usually take place within the first nights, certainly within
the first few weeks of use. Just like a new pair of shoes, a set of
bedding will break in with the individual using it and become even
more comfortable with use. If you notice some impressions, don't
worry, this means that your mattress is conforming to your
body.
To help minimize body impressions and to maximize comfort and
longevity of your sleep set, we recommend that you rotate your
mattress every two weeks in the first three months; and thereafter,
once every two months. By rotating your mattress the cushioning and
insulation materials will be evenly and properly
distributed.
